The data center hearing came and went without a decision

Judge Kimberly Fitzpatrick heard arguments Wednesday morning from the Lakes at Marshall Ridge HOA and the Town of Westlake, then took the whole thing under advisement instead of ruling from the bench. She extended the existing court order through September 8, which means Westlake still cannot vote on or act on the development agreement for the Circle T data center. A written ruling is expected next week. Westlake put out a statement saying it respects the court taking more time and remains confident in its process. The practical version for anyone in Marshall Ridge: nothing is approved, no dirt is moving, and the agreement only goes back in front of Westlake's council if the judge lifts the order.

Keller has not banned data centers, no matter what you've heard

Back on August 12, Keller's council approved a motion to start the process for a 90-day moratorium on data centers inside city limits, bumped up from a proposed 30 days after council members pushed for more time. That's a direction to staff, not a law. All four research passes this week came back the same way: no draft ordinance posted, no adoption vote, and the August 26 council session was limited to a TIRZ report and the budget work session. Texas requires posted notice and public hearings before council can adopt something like this, so it's a process that has started, not a protection that exists.

A game shop is moving from Fort Worth into Bear Creek Plaza

OrbInSpire Games, a Magic, Warhammer, Pokémon and model-building shop currently on Park Vista Circle in far north Fort Worth, is relocating into the old Trek Bicycle space on South Main this fall. Co-owner Kat Hernandez told Community Impact the point of the move is room for organized play, with space for around 100 people at events. If you have a kid who's been begging for a ride to a card tournament, that drive is about to get a lot shorter.

Trustees vote tonight on buying the land under the natatorium

Item 9.D on tonight's 5 p.m. agenda is a resolution to buy real property from the City of Keller. The property in question is the ground under the KISD Natatorium at 1000 Bear Creek Parkway, which the district built on city-owned land under an arrangement that has since run out. District documents put the price in the neighborhood of $675,000, though the agenda itself doesn't list a figure. This matters because the natatorium has been closed since May with a repair bill north of $2 million, and owning the dirt changes who's on the hook for it long term. Results weren't posted when this went out, so watch the board recap page.

The board is talking about a citizen watchdog committee for the bond

Also on tonight's agenda, under discussion rather than action, is creating a Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. If the $828 million bond passes in November, that committee would be the mechanism residents use to track whether the money actually goes where the propositions said it would. Nothing gets decided tonight, but it's the first sign of what accountability would look like after the vote.

A virtual option for high schoolers is in the works

Tonight's board packet includes a report on virtual learning and the district's math adoption. District materials point to a committee developing online options for grades 9 through 12 starting in 2027-28, following a state policy change that lets districts draw attendance funding for qualifying virtual programs. It's a report, not a vote, so treat it as a direction the district is heading rather than a program you can sign up for.

Both restaurants you're waiting on are still closed

Red Pepper Wok at 1411 Keller Parkway still has a coming soon sign and no set opening date, and there's still no independent confirmation it has opened. Umzi Vine & Vibe at 444 Keller Parkway is further along, with its remodel permit listing an end-of-August completion, but the owners are running a guess-the-date contest instead of announcing one, and the only timeline anyone has said out loud is late September to early October. Nothing opened in Keller this week, and nothing closed either.
